Denny Ertel

Denny Ertel is Vice President of Clinical and Business Systems Development for Kindred Healthcare, Inc. He has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, with the majority of that time spent in managing clinical systems development for a major acute care hospital corporation.

His department’s responsibilities include product management and development of clinical systems within all lines of businesses and all corporate business applications. It also oversees Kindred’s Internet and Intranet development, as well as the company’s enterprise data warehouse. In fulfilling these duties, the department uses a host of technologies, including:

• Microsoft Back Office Services (IIS, SQL Server)
• Microsoft Visual Studio and C++
• Crystal Report Writer
• Proprietary development tools
• Seagate Info
• Informatica tools

A talented team of approximately 70 programmers and analysts report to Denny, representing a blend of junior-, intermediate- and senior-level experience.

Prior to joining Kindred in 1997, Denny held management and staff positions at Humana and followed the growth of that company through subsequent mergers with Columbia and Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation. He was actively involved with the design of the market area concept at Columbia/HCA, where patient demographic and clinical information collected in any of the area’s hospitals could be viewed from a single master patient medical record. Denny is a 1977 graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.
