Hospital DivisionOur nationwide system of long-term acute care hospitals provides care to medically complex patients who require prolonged treatment plans and extended recovery time. These patients have serious medical conditions best treated by a physician-directed interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including respiratory therapists, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and dietitians. Patients in our hospitals are usually referred from a traditional short-term acute care hospital and have an average length of stay of about 30 days. About 30% of our patients recuperate to the degree that they can return directly home, and approximately 50% are transferred to a skilled nursing center, assisted living center, rehab hospital or other post-acute care setting to complete their recovery. Substantially all of our hospitals feature 24-hour physician support and the ancillary services one would expect to find at an acute care hospital, including laboratory, radiology, operating or procedure rooms, intensive care units (ICUs) and telemetry units. Our hospitals are licensed as acute care hospitals and are accredited by The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) as hospitals. As part of a nationwide network of long-term acute care hospitals, we benefit from the protocol and technology synergies among our hospitals that provide continued enhancements in quality. We continue to take steps to improve our quality indicators and the quality of care delivered at our hospitals. Our quality indicators of vent pneumonia, blood infection rates and hospital-acquired pressure wound rates have improved consistently year-over-year. In addition, our patient satisfaction measures have increased in each of the past four years. Services Provided*
